COMFLUENT STORY
Who we really are
Alf Gardner, CEO, is the heart of Comfluent’s "can do" mentality and passion for helping its customers succeed. He identifies with customers who want to take risks; to try things that have never been done before. To pioneer, shall we say.
In the mid ‘90s, after many years in the oil and gas business, Gardner wanted to take the leap into something new, something sustainable. The possibilities the Internet could bring to businesses piqued his interest. Little did he know at the time that there are more similarities between the national natural gas distribution system and the Internet than he ever would have dreamed.
When Gardner discovered the Denver Gas & Electric (DG&E) building at 910 15th Street -- the premier telecommunications facility in the Rocky Mountain region -- the true similarities between the industries really hit him. The building is located at what is known as "Mile Zero," the primary entry point for the northern LATA (656) of Colorado. This reminded Gardner of the famous Henry Hub natural gas interchange, located in Erath, LA -- the delivery point for the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX).
"I realized then that Comfluent would become the Henry Hub of the networking world," explained Gardner. "There are just two differences: 1) Gas only flows in one direction, and 2) gas is a limited resource. The same can not be said for fiber."
Incorporated in 1992 as Fryingpan Resources, Inc., Comfluent has conducted business at 910 15th Street, Denver’s carrier hotel, since 1997. Its business record speaks for itself: Comfluent has sustained net profitability at a time when many competitors were shutting their doors. Comfluent has enthusiastic clients with real business models who are committed to their relationship of mutual benefit and who understand and appreciate the value the company and its employees have to offer.
